THE TOME OF THE SATED TRAVELER

Distressed patchwork leather binds the foot-thick tome, ancient as the hills. The parchment pages are covered with obscure drawings, maps, symbols and captions in a variety of dead languages. There are recipes too, or at least parts of them as many of the pages are crumbling from the ravages of time. It's a beautiful but mysterious work, the elegance of Da Vinci's Codex with the edge of a pagan spellbook. Some pages glow with a medieval illumination, others appear smudged by crude charcoal briquettes. A precursor to all cookbooks, the Tome was born when a nomadic, pre-literate community first thought 'Hey, that tasted good... how can I or one of my friends make it again sometime?' Now the Tome is the foundation of the Biker Chef's quest, it provides the clues which guide the journey into each new region. The Chef is driven to find the missing pieces and complete the puzzle of the Tome... or is it the Tome that is completing Biker Chef?

THE MOTORCYCLES

Cruisers. Big, steel frame hogs built for power and comfort on the road less traveled. Loud, yes, but not obnoxious. The bikes reflect their riders' personalities but the custom accessories never detract from the machines' basic beauty. The Biker Chef's attached an array of well-worn cooking utensils to his rig so his weapons of choice are always close at hand. His ride is his war stallion, ready for action. Sous is a little more partial to curves n' chrome styling, a holdover from the biker gang days. He's a purist, his bike is always spotless and every part is stock. For Max it's all about accessorizing. His big old cruiser is so loaded with hi-tech toys it's basically an open-air Winnebago, a long haul marvel.

THE CRATE

Sous' tow-behind mini trailer is one remarkable reservoir. It houses his vast tool collection for on the spot bike repairs and an amazing range of pantry items the Chef may call upon to round out his recipes. In fact, at times the Crate seems bottomless, able to produce practically anything in a pinch. Lunch is important to the team since they never get to eat the featured dishes the Chef creates. Instead they subsist on a simple diet of common faire such as hot dogs. When lunch time rolls around Max digs into the Crate for one of the many cook-em-quick gizmos he's mastered, while the Biker Chef will often regale his cohorts with an anecdotal tale involving the history of cooking. These are the informal moments that help cement the camaraderie of the team. Entertaining, informative, a welcome respite from the rigors of the road.
